- This is a beautiful book filled with wisdom, support and loving advice for expectant parents and co-parents whether through pregnancy or adoption, as well as for parents and step-parents. The theme throughout is not to strive for the impossibility of perfection but rather to honor our authenticity while doing the best we can with any situation. The personal stories shared are poignant and inspiring and include the author's own experience with miscarriage before two full-term pregnancies. The light and dark aspects of hoping for, expecting a child and having a child are expressed with a clarity and non-judgment which allows for true authenticity to emerge. The connection Cariad-Barrett makes to Spirit and Nature deepens the writing and offers some lovely ceremonies and prayers through each of the stages discussed. I highly recommended this!
- Thoughtful book with well written exercises, and personal narratives. I especially appreciated the inclusion of a chapter on pregnancy loss and miscarriage. This quote stood out to me "When you understand that losing a pregnancy is a normal part of the process, it helps you prepare your heart and not to inflict shame and judgment on yourself." This book would make a nice and unique gift for a parent-to-be.

- Started out fine, totally lost me on some mom's story about how "in a tragic turn of events, I had to abandon my son." Nope. Way to feed into the worst stereotypes about flaky hippies prioritizing "personal growth" over responsibility. Completely severed any thread of connection established with the author and the material.
